5 Things You Need to Know Now

  Emblem College Counseling is now The College Studio!
  As we grow, we wanted our name to better reflect the philosophy that has always guided us; that college admissions is not a science, and admissions counseling is not a formula. This is a craft, one we practice with flexibility, responsiveness, creativity, and care. We are truly invested in the process and outcome for every one of our students and try to create a safe space - even if it’s virtual - for them to learn, grow, reflect, and make big decisions. The College Studio is a name that feels like “us” and we’re so excited for what’s next!

• 2026 Common App + Essay Bootcamps

  We’re offering our signature Bootcamp twice this summer:

  ⏰ 5–8 PM (3 evenings)

  In just 3 days, complete your Common App and draft a strong personal essay - all with expert guidance, personalized feedback, and a clear plan moving forward.

• Seniors: What To Do After You Commit

  Once you’ve committed here are a few important steps to take:

  • Withdraw your other applications
    This is courteous, expected, and opens spots for waitlisted students. Log into each portal and decline admissions or withdraw. (One exception – if you’re still hoping to get off of a school’s waitlist – don’t withdrawal.)

  • Thank your recommenders and high school guidance counselor
    A handwritten note goes a long way here

  • Check your college portal regularly
    Schools will begin sending next steps, forms, and deadlines

  • Complete housing and orientation forms
    These often come quickly after you commit

  • Look closely at course placement and AP/IB policies

    AP/IB credits may affect course levels and graduation timeline. Also check what score is required on an AP exam to receive “credit.” Consider taking AP exams. Yes, even at the very end of senior year, even if you’re not sure you’ll do great. At many schools, a “3” on an AP test can award college credit.

  • Be intentional about roommate choices

    Don’t just pick someone because you like their Instagram. Ask about habits, schedules, expectations. Ideally, your roommate can become a great friend. Realistically, it’s more important that you can compatibly co-exist in a small space.

  Test scores are regaining importance in the admissions process. Here are upcoming dates and registration deadlines for SAT & ACT tests.

  • May 2 (Reg. Deadline 4/17, Late Deadline 4/21)

  • June 6 (Reg. Deadline 5/22, Late Deadline 5/26)

  ACT Test Dates
