Admitted Students Days Flip the ScriptAfter months (maybe years) of trying to impress colleges…now you get to watch THEM try to impress YOU! If you’re still deciding between schools - make Admitted Students day a priority. These days help you learn in depth about student life, majors, programs, and opportunities. Importantly, you’ll also meet other admitted students who could potentially be your classmates (and friends). How do you like the vibe? Does it feel right? Or not? Are you more excited about your major? Or less? Admitted students days let you be the judge. Year after year, we watch students gain clarity and confidence after Admitted Students days.
──────────── Summer Job = Application BoosterWant to stand out in admissions? Get a job. Admissions officers are often more intrigued by employment than clubs or even community service. Why? Because admissions knows that clubs and community service can often (not always!) require minimal investment of time, energy, and initiative. Jobs are the total opposite. Jobs require you to earn them and keep them. They require initiative, energy, and time. They often push you out of your comfort zone. Beyond that, some of our favorite essays are about student’s experiences at work - they’re original, full of perspective, and ripe with details. So, if you’re in 10th or 11th grade, next time you see a “Help Wanted” sign - check it out. It might turn out to be the help you needed. ────────────
Were you Offered a Summer Term Start?A 6-week on-campus program in the middle of the summer before freshman year, Summer Starts are often misunderstood. At many schools, Summer Starts help admissions manage admit rates, especially for out-of-state-students. And while a Summer Start is a “hard no” for some students. We encourage everyone to keep an open mind. A Summer Start is a head start! Students who start in the summer make friends quickly with a smaller group on campus and a lighter workload. They transition to college life with less pressure and distractions, gain confidence as college students, and get ahead on credits. Also, the Summer Start doesn’t take up the whole summer. You’ll still have time for high school friends and a family vacation. Then when school starts in the Fall, you’re already comfortable, have friends, and know your way around. If you got a Summer Start, keep it in perspective - especially if it’s the path into your top choice school. A few weeks of one summer for 4 years at your favorite college isn’t a bad deal.
